Eagle-eyed readers may have noted about 5 categories on the right side of the home page at www.bengamblin.com over the last few weeks. These were the precursors to a new categorising system that I have setup designed.

I've just completed, and launched, the latest revamp of my site. Since it hadn't really changed much since January 2007, I decided it was looking a bit tired and needed a spring clean.

I rebuilt my server a few days ago...well the software side of it anyway. The machine was running Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) Desktop edition since it used to be my main use PC until I recommisioned it. The trouble with that version of Ubuntu is simple - support ends this month.

It's quite hard work this PHP stuff.
Not only have I been learning that, but also MySQL and as such, the blog has had a complete overhaul even since a few days ago when I said I was implementing PHP into the blog so that all necessary changes where made for me.

The original text of this entry has been lost due to a database error (caused by me) but it was basically talking about my first ventures with PHP coding and how I was trying to develop scripts that would create the HTML code for blog entries, and update the necessary files on the website.

Well I've had loads of fun over the last day or two trying to upgrade my web server PC. I've managed to acquire an AMD 400MHz machine, but have had a nightmare of a time networking it with Windows 98 (in that I couldn't), so I installed Windows 2000 on it yesterday, and networking sprang to life (hooray!) - until that is, I installed Apache Web Server. Once it was set up and running, every time another PC on the local network tried to access the website, the ENTIRE network went down. The only way around it was to reboot the ADSL router.
