Athens Olympics / Computer Upgrade

28 Aug '04, 00:00

I've got to say it is nice to beat the Americans at sport for once. I've been watching the Olympics today which have been going on over the last couple of weeks, and today we had the final of the men's 4 x 100 relay which we won be 100th of a second the America coming second! I've been playing around with Kate's computer today, and I think I might have broke it :-) I've been saying for a few days that I would install a new hard drive for her - which I did, but thought at the same time I would swap her TV card over for a better one I had laying around. So I uninstalled everything from the old one, fitted the new one and tried to install the software and drivers. Now Windows XP (wonderful OS that it is(!)) detected the new hardware and installed some drivers but the software wouldn't recognise that. I tried loads of different ways of installing including brand spanking new drivers from the 'net but nothing worked. So I decided that I was flogging a dead horse, and decided to put the old one back. This I did, but with similar problems. Anyway I managed to re-install the card but do you think it can see any TV channels? Can it buggery. Could be a dodgy aerial but then you might think that the dirty great bit of coax cable might pick up a snowy picture. Ooh - I've just had a thought whilst typing! Perhaps the coax isn't connected to the splitter in the room next door. Must ask when my housemate arrives back. (The aerial wiring in this place is a shambles. There's a rough sketch of how it all fits together in the objects section.)

Got my Commodore 64 computer yesterday. I didn't realise until I saw a large box stuck behind a recycling bin at the front of the house. Obviously no-one to take delivery and these things don't fit through letterboxes (unless you go at it with a sledgehammer). So I've been playing Dizzy games over the last 24 hours (but not continuously mind you).

Oh and I've still got my cough. Bloody thing.
