Server Works06 Jul '04, 00:00Well I've had loads of fun over the last day or two trying to upgrade my web server PC. I've managed to acquire an AMD 400MHz machine, but have had a nightmare of a time networking it with Windows 98 (in that I couldn't), so I installed Windows 2000 on it yesterday, and networking sprang to life (hooray!) - until that is, I installed Apache Web Server. Once it was set up and running, every time another PC on the local network tried to access the website, the ENTIRE network went down. The only way around it was to reboot the ADSL router. So today, I started again, gave Windows more disk space, and installed LAN Suite 2004 instead of Apache, and I now have no problems. Gonna leave it alone for a bit now, and try Apache again when I'm feeling brave. Anyway, now I know that is working, I can seriously start thinking about buying parts for the my new PC which will replace the Duron 1GHz. That's going to be re-housed into a desktop case with only the essentials, and be used for the UKTTW streaming PC. You might ask why I could only wait until now to start buying bits - well the original web server was in a Dell desktop case. Now that has been replaced, the Duron will take it's physical space ie the Duron needs a desktop case. If I couldn't get the new web server machine to work (which is a tower), then that machine would have been scrapped and the Duron would remain in a tower case. It's all down to how much space I have for everything. It all needs to be carefully planned you see.
